We started off the day by getting acquainted with our guides and getting into our four groups. It was a lot of fun to spend time with our KB and KC friends, as well as each other! Our four stations included planting seeds, learning about the various herbs, fruits, and vegetables grown on the farm (and tasting some, too!), visiting with and feeding the animals (cows, horses, goats, pigs, sheep, and chickens, to be exact), and taking a hay ride.
Here are a few snapshots of our day:
Getting ready for all of the fun!
Learning about planting and growing food:

Planting and growing our very own seeds! Golden beets and red lettuce:

Here we are tasting some of the fresh foods that grow on the farm. Believe it or not, our favorite was the flower of the collard greens!

We loved these cute pigs and piglets!
And the goats and cows too!
Most of us said the hayride was the best! We learned about how trees get a new ring for each birthday, and about compost too.
There will be many more Calleva pictures to come, once the kindergarten teachers have all had a chance to exchange photos from the day :)
In math this week, we continued learning about measurement. We learned about measuring capacity, then made our own containers using Play-Doh to hold exactly ten counting bears. It was a little tricky, but we did a great job!
