Green Eggs and Ham and Tizzle-Topped Tufted Mazurkas

We had a fun-filled week with lots of Dr. Seuss!

We read If I Ran the Zoo and created our own Tizzle Toppled Tufted Mazurkas.

We read Green Eggs and Ham and loved our green eggs for snack!

We read Bartholomew and the Oobleck and made some oobleck of our own! Most of us thought the oobleck looked like a solid but felt like a liquid.

We also had lots of fun in free choice centers, math, language arts and quiet time. Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Magner have had so much fun watching us become such amazing readers, writers and mathematicians.

We had a surprise guest reader this week, and we couldn't have been happier.

We are so proud of how well you led the Student-Involved Conferences. We hope you have a wonderful Spring Break and can't wait to hear about your adventures!

Winnie the Pooh and Estimation Too

Winnie the Pooh

We had so much fun on our field trip to Adventure Theater in Glen Echo to see Winnie the Pooh. We loved seeing one of our favorite characters come to life.

We were about to burst with excitement getting on the bus.

We walked over a beautiful bridge to the theater and talking about playing Pooh sticks on the way.

We arrived sooner than we expected so we read books to pass the time.

The theater was the perfect size for us, and we loved being so close to Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit and Christopher Robin. Some of us were not too excited about being close to the Heffalumps and Woozles, but luckily, we didn't see any!

Thank you so much to our chaperones Mrs. Noone and Mr. Ricard.

Penny Cleaning Experiment

In honor of President's Day, we embarked on a Penny Cleaning Experiment. We made a hypothesis about which liquid would be the best cleaning agent - lemon juice, vinegar or salt water. We predicted vinegar would be the best cleaner but lots of us decided lemon juice was better. We tried a mystery liquid at the end of our experiment, and it really worked! It was Coca-cola!

Look how clean our pennies are!

Estimation

We have just started to explore estimation. Mrs. Peterson filled our estimation jar with marshmallows and we wrote our estimation on our iPads. Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Magner couldn't believe how accurate our predictions were.

We loved estimating the candy hearts that the Musella family sent in, and we can hardly wait for our next estimation.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!!

One KA monkey was absent so we will update our birthday tribute next week.

Fun Filled Week in KA

International Week Continued

We were thoroughly spoiled again by our parents this week. We traveled to the countries of Brazil, Hungary and China for the last part of International Week. Mrs. Noguchi taught us about the rainforest in Brazil and read us the Legend of the Victoria Regia (water lily). She also shared a delicious Brazilian snack called pao de queijo.

The Recks further spoiled us with beautiful photographs and stories about Hungary and a delicious treat called kiflis. We couldn't decide whether we liked the nut or jam kiflis better!

The Olivas also brought in a special packet for good luck and good fortune for The Year of the Snake.

Inspiration

We were the first Kindergarten class to lead Inspiration this year, and we did an absolutely amazing job. Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Magner were so proud of how well we handled our jobs. Mrs. Hall was impressed with how poised we were.

100th Day

Zero the Hero came to help us celebrate the 100th day of school. She read us a story called The 100th Day of School and led us on a surprise trip to the gym where we squealed with delight as 100 balloons fell from the ceiling. Before leaving our celebration, Zero gave us 100 Days Smarter crowns and a yummy cake. We shared our collections of one hundred items, and these included jellybeans, M&Ms, stickers, dots, dimes, googly eyes, cupcake liners, matches, beads, Lego people, cards and Skittles!
